Who We Are ...

Please join us for teaching, community, fellowship and always lively and interactive discussion at the East West Sunday School fellowship.

We seek to work out the CGS vision and mission statements in our flock, but there are six specific core values that we hope will characterize us.

1.
Gospel Engine: the way we come into relationship with God is the means by which we continue to grow in that relationship. We need to grow in our ability to speak to ourselves and to others of the hope, comfort and acceptances of God's rescue and adoption of us through Christ (Gal 3.1-5; Tit 2.11; Col 1.5, 6).
2.
Changed People: this is what walking with Christ is all about. Spiritual transformation, not moral constraint, is the sign and product of true worship; this is the result that counts the most (2 Cor 3.18; 1 Cor 13.1-7; 1 Cor 14.24-25).
 3.
Our Social Environments (Chapel Hill, Cary, Raleigh, Hillsborough, etc.): we need to learn how to better love and serve our towns. We were all drawn to live and work in and around our towns for various reasons but it is ultimately the place where God has us to live as instruments of his peace and grace (Jer 29; Dan 1).
4.
Community: the good news creates not only new individuals but also a new people. In true Gospel Community, Jesus is the "glue" that holds us together. As we are each called to God in Christ, we also have new unique relationships with each other that are mediated by Christ (Acts 2.42-47; 1 Cor 1.9).
 5.
Movements of Small Groups: we want to trust God for a growing number of small groups throughout our region that will testify to the transforming power and joy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Shepherding groups should be places of rich community, pastoral support and discipleship, but we will pray and hope that they also can be "back doors" for people to come into the church (Acts 2.42-47).
6.
Mission: part of the abundant life of Christ is found in being used by Him. The scope of mission is spiritual, socio-economic, vocational, and cultural--that is, we want to be instruments of Christ so that all these areas will greater reflect His lordship and glory (Matt 5.13-16; 1 Cor 3.6-9; 2 Cor 5.18-21).
