The East / West Flock is made up of people living east and west of The Church of the Good Shepherd. It forms a horseshoe around Durham and includes: mostly Chapel Hill but also Raleigh and other points east and Carrboro and other points west. We meet together on Sunday mornings in a Teaching Fellowship to learn the Bible and its applications to our contemporary situations, and we meet during the week in Shepherding Groups to train and encourage one another in smaller settings.
During the school year, please join us each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in Room S202 (the former "Parlor" across from the kitchen at the first end of the facility you come to as you drive up Garrett Road from 15-501). We meet together to encourage each other and to learn together "all that Jesus commanded us" and the implications for our lives in every sphere.
We gather in groups of 8-15 folks to study the Bible together, share our lives together, and pray together. For more information contact one of us elders listed below. These groups are central to our life together as a church, and we really encourage you to become part of one.

What do YOU want to learn? There are certain core truths that followers of Christ have needed to learn from the first century until the twenty-first. Yet for many of us the idea of a set curriculum with required courses sounds boring and restrictive. So what would you like to learn about from a biblical world and life view? Bruce, Dave, and I want to make sure we are all well grounded in the truth that is in Christ, but we know that in order for us to be present to learn, we need to be convinced that this "stuff" is relevant to our busy and often bothered lives. Plus, if we are feeling the need for perspective on a particular topic, chances are others are feeling that same need and the topic is probably addressed in our overall curriculum thoughts any way. So contact one or all of us, and let us know what you are thinking we should study together. (David Bowen) "OWE: Paying our debt to all fellow human beings that they hear the good news about Jesus (Romans 1:14-15)." We begin the year with an emphasis on GLOBAL outreach, leading up to our annual Global Outreach Conference. For the 4 Sundays of January 8 through 29, we will meet alongside the North Flock and hear from Jerry Currin, Didi Wong, and Bill James as they teach about our OFFERING (Jerry) for WORLD (Didi) EVANGELIZATION (Bill). On Sunday, January 29 we will join all the flocks in hearing from Richard Pratt, our conference speaker, during the teaching fellowship hour with Q & A related to his presentations Saturday night and Sunday morning in our worship. We will end at 10:30 sharp, and we will definitely have time for discussion. We hope that members and visitors alike will take advantage of this learning and fellowship opportunity. |
