What We Do

What we do at CGS Student Ministries

Sunday Morning Worship: Sundays at CGS revolve around gathered corporate worship. During the week the church is often scattered around the Triangle but on Sundays students are called to be a part of the body of believers. Students are not to be the church in waiting but to be the church now and are encouraged to share their gifts and talents with fellow believers. We come together on Sundays not to take what we can get but to offer to God our worship for how he has redeemed us.

Youth Group: Our weekly youth event for our High School and Middle School students that we hope can be used to not only minister to the covenant students of CGS, but also reach out to every student in the Durham/Chapel Hill area that does not know the love of Jesus. At CGS we eat and hangout, spend time in worship, and learn from the Word of God. We hope that youth group is place where students feel safe to be themselves and invite their friends to meet Jesus and grow in their relationship with Him.

Sunday Mornings: Sunday school is a time on Sunday mornings when students, leaders, and visitors of the Student ministries gather over breakfast downstairs in the youth room to fellowship. After a time of fellowship, leaders teach from the Word of God. Jesus is at work in our students and this is a place where we can gather together to look at God’s word and see how it applies in real ways to our lives as believers.

Retreats: Where we disconnect to connect. Connect with God. Connect with each other. Connect with our leaders. Our hope for the retreats of CGS is that that our students would lay aside the busy-ness and stress of everyday life in order that they might get away and grow through God’s word, fellowship with one another, worship and some fun too. The Middle school students participate in the Fin and Feather Fall Classic and our High school students have done the Road Trips.

Small Groups: This is an opportunity for our students to grow together in community as they engage more deeply with God’s word. Small groups are the place where deeper relationships can be found as we study God’s word, pray and grow together. We believe that the gospel completely changes the way we normally “do” community. It creates communities of hope, welcome, wisdom and service.

Service/Mission Trips: Students are called to work and serve in the Kingdom of God. In order to grow as servants in His Kingdom, we seek to broaden our experiences and perspectives. A student at CGS is first introduced to short-term missions through the Mission: Durham mission trip for Middle School students. Mission:Durham is a service oriented mission trip that takes place in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. It teaches Middle School students that there are many needs in the community around them, and we are called to help fulfill these needs in any way we can. As they enter High School they will look beyond the city they live in and their comfort zones as well as they seek to learn about serving outside of the local context. Our hope is that our High School students will get a bigger picture of God’s Kingdom as they interact and serve in other parts of the country.
